The official title of Princess Beatrice’s daughter and best bets on the newborn’s name

Princess Beatrice delighted royal fans over the weekend as Buckingham Palace announced she had welcomed a baby with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s new-born daughter will have an official title from her father’s family, not from the British monarchy.

The royal baby, who was born on Saturday, will be given the Italian title of Nobile Donna translating to Noble Woman.

Edoardo, whose official title is Count, is from a family that was part of the Italian nobility before the country became a republic in 1946.

Buckingham Palace announced she gave birth to the six pound, two ounce little girl on Saturday in London, it is not yet known what her name will be.

The newborn, who is 11th in line to the throne, is the couple’s first child together, while Edoardo already has a son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship.

She is also a 12th great-grandchild for the Queen and a second grandchild for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

While Prince Harry and Meghan paid tribute to Her Majesty with the name of their baby daughter, Lilibet, the latest odds indicate Beatrice may opt to pay homage to her mother instead.

Betfair lists Sarah as the early 8/1 favourite, but suggests the couple may also honour Edoardo’s Italian heritage.

Anna is second favourite at 10/1, with Maria at 12/1 and Rosa at 14/1.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: “Royal Family fans will be delighted to hear the news that not long after sister Eugenie gave birth, Beatrice has welcomed her first child to the world, a bouncing baby girl – and Sarah is the early 8/1 favourite, a nod to her mother Sarah the Duchess of York.

“We are tipping the happy couple to have an Italian flavour with their choice of name, with Edoardo’s father hailing from Bergamo. The likes of Anna at 10/1 second favourite, Maria at 12/1 and Rosa at 14/1 suggest they could break from traditional British names usually favoured by the Royal Family.”

Meanwhile, Ladbrokes suggests Beatrice and sister Eugenie’s own names, which marked a break from royal tradition, may see the newborn given a more uncommon moniker.

The bookies have Matilda at 4/1, Florence at 9/2 and Arabella and Cecilia at 5/1.

Elizabeth, a clear tribute to the Queen, is priced at 7/1.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “Given Beatrice and her sister’s names are a little different than the norm for the royals, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see a new moniker introduced for their daughter, and also with an Italian twist.

“Matilda and Florence are the early picks with punters, but we can’t rule out a nod to Her Majesty or Grandma Fergie.”
