The Wanted’s Tom Parker issues devastating update over cancer battle
The Wanted’s Tom Parker has issued a devastating update on his battle with cancer, revealing his heartwrenching reaction when doctor’s told him he had a brain tumour.
The 33-year-old musician was speaking to TV presenter Davina McCall as he appeared with his fellow bandmates on Channel 4’s special Stand Up To Cancer night.
Tom revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma – an inoperable and incurable brain tumour, reports Birmingham Live.
As he joined Channel 4 and Cancer Research’s fundraising campaign, Tom revealed that he had been by himself when he was diagnosed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He went on to describe how he had spent days unable to leave his bed as he thought he was going to die.
He said: “There was nobody else. I just remember looking over to one of the guys on the ward, and he was struggling with something.
“They whipped a curtain around me and said ‘You’ve got a brain tumour’.
“I said you must have made a mistake, I’m too young.”
He also revealed that he had struggled in the early days of his diagnosis.
“You’ve just got to have a positive mindset,” Tom told Davina.
“I think cancer can consume you…there was a time at the start of this journey where I just couldn’t get out of bed.
“It was the mental not the physical…I was thinking what’s the point of getting out of bed, I’m going to die.”
When asked what gave him the strength to carry on, the star replied: “I had to, I’ve got kids.”
