Hollywood star Idris Elba visits Glasgow to speak at COP26 climate summit

Hollywood star Idris Elba was in Glasgow earlier on Saturday to attend an event at the COP26 climate summit.

The 49-year-old is best known for blockbuster hits like Thor, American Gangster and Prometheus and spoke today at the SEC campus alongside actor wife Sabrina Elba.

Idris has been tipped to be the next James Bond for years now, and is one of the many famous faces to have arrived in Glasgow for the climate summit, with others including Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

Actor Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Elba speak to promote action for greener, fairer and more sustainable food systems on day seven of COP26 at SECC.

Both Idris and wife Sabrina are IFAD Goodwill Ambassadors and International Fund for Agricultural Development and Conservation International Board Members.

The briefing was with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Conservation International on investing in small-scale agriculture, climate adaptation and nature-based solutions to achieve sustainable food systems.

He was joined by fellow speakers by M. Sanjayan, CEO of Conservation International, and Gilbert F. Houngbo, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

Elba is no stranger to Glasgow, having filmed scenes for blockbuster Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw on the city streets back in October 2018.

His visit to Glasgow for COP26 follows that made by Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been spotted attending various COP26 fringe events around the city over the past week – including SWG3 and the Engine Works in Maryhill.
