Sea Shanty star Nathan Evans shares secrets of former postman job

It’s hard to imagine celebrities in jobs from before they hit the big time, but Nathan Evans has shared some details of his life before finding fame on TikTok.

Before becoming a viral sensation, the 26-year-old from Airdrie worked as a postman for a few months until he found success with his music.

Since then, the star has gone on to have number one hits, tour across Europe and perform at TRNSMT.

“I took the job because it allowed me to focus on my music” explained Nathan.

“I started at eight so I wasn’t on the super early shifts. I was only a postman for four months before everything happened. I would go in and people were sorting out the mail in bags.

“Every postman has a route and you had more than one bag, so you’d finish your route and get a bag left at the next postbox you went to until your route was finished. Like a relay!” laughed Nathan.

“One of the reasons I took the job is because I needed a one with lockdown, but I wanted one that would give me time to upload things on Tiktok. I would finish at half three then get straight home. Being a postman really helped me actually.”

And this year after swapping the postie relay for the awards circuit, it’s fair paid off – he’s amassed an amazing two billion streams and was awarded the Best Male Breakthrough Award sponsored by Dirt Comms & KHOLE at the Scottish Music Awards.

“It’s just me and my guitar, so i’ve been driving around getting all ready” said Nathan.

“I’m excited for London and Manchester but I don’t know what the reception will be like.

“It’s another one of those things that’s happened this year that I can add to the list of things I didn’t think would ever happen.

“A dream come true. I’ve always wanted to do music so to be here in such a short space of time is just incredible.”

Nathan has also released a cover of festive classic ‘Driving Home For Christmas’, ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ which is available to download, stream and buy from Friday 3rd December.

“This is the first time I’ve released music for the festive season” said Nathan.

“When I was growing up, we’d always have Christmas music playing from early December right up until New Years Eve so it’s great that I can help spread a little joy around this time of year.”
