Legendary clip reveals Star Wars crew initially thought Darth Vader was a Scot

Darth Vader with a Scottish accent – it might sound too strange to be true.

However an unearthed clip reveals Vader was initially mistaken for a Scot due to Bristol-born David Prowse’s accent.

In the footage a voiceover artist says: “Finding the right voice for Darth Vader was another challenge – Lucas had never intended to use the onset vocal performance of David Prowse.”

A crew member then explains: “I can still hear David Prowse’s accent in the Darth Vader mask muffled cause he would do the real dialogue.

“It was hilarious and terrifying at the same time cause we didn’t know what Darth sounded like. That was the first time we heard him. Is that it? it going to be some Scottish guy or what is this?”

Prowse was initially case as Vader for his physique, but the character was ultimately voiced by James Earl Jones.

This comes as Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi gears up to fight Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader for the latest Star Wars TV show on Disney +.

McGregor teased fans about the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series which will screen next year, and takes place after events of the Star Wars : Revenge of the Sith feature film.

Obi-Wan is in hiding and keeping watch over young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine.

Ewan said: “There is a hunger for this character to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough, you know.”

The series comes out in 2022 and from the trailer it looks like the two will have a duel, and Darth Vader’s famous voice will be heard again.
